Group Formation

On the first week, we form a group consist of students with different specialization. After some talks, I finally form a group consist of 2 graphic design students, 2 UI/UX students, and 1 from entertainment design.

Then, we have to choose which project we do we all agree to do, so after some discussion we finally decided to choose the patient transfer device project.

Dr. Wong arranged a meeting with our client in class to understand further and deeper about our topic and what our client wants us to do exactly. After the meeting, we then write down the problem statement based on the information we got from our client, Prof. Manohar.

We also made a figjam together to write every important information, as well as documenting our progress for each week.

After we made the problem statement, the next step is interview. We have to choose our target audience as well as our interviewee. We decided to choose family members (caregivers) and nurses (medical professionals) as our target audience. Then, we discuss together for the interview questions and we later pick the best questions for the final interview questions.

We also brainstorm for the inclusion and exclusion criteria on choosing our interviewee to make sure that they fit with our topic perfectly.

Empathy Phase

After we finalized our interview questions, we decided to conduct an interview in Assunta Hospital with the nurses, as well as doing an observation at the hospital.

We print out the consent form that was given by Prof. Manohar to ask the nurses' consent later, and we documented the interview by video and voice recording.

After we're done interviewing 3 nurses, we then conduct an online interview for the family members. We do the interview with Btari's aunt, my mom, and Qian Kuan's mom, since they have experiences with taking care of their parents/elderly.

Next, we write down the interview findings and we divided the task by doing it for each of the person we have interviewed by ourselves.

We also make each transcript and highlighted the questions and the answers for each interviewee in Google Docs.

Fig 2.9 Interview Transcript

Then, based on each interviewee findings, we simplified the key findings and choose the top five findings from there.

The next step after done making the top five findings is to make an affinity diagrams. So we gather together and make the affinity diagram together. We made the diagram separately for the nurses and the family members.

Define Phase

For the next step after making the affinity diagrams, we classified our findings into 7 categories.

Then, we made the key themes (The "what") together based on the information we have in the Figma. After we're done, we then made the Insights or The "why" statements.

After that, we make the Problem Statement (POV) together, and separately for both the nurses and the family members.

After we're done with the problem statement, we then made the UNSDGs and our how might we statement. We put our own ideas in Figma, then we work on it together.

Fig 2.16 UNSDGs and How Might We Statements

For the how might we statement, we put our answers together, then we combine the best for the final how might we. Below here is our final how might we statements:

After we're done all of them, we also made the user persona for the nurses and family members. Below here are the two user persona that we have made:

Fig 2.18 User Persona (Nurse & Family Members)

Then, we made the empathy map for both nurses and family members, after we're done with the user persona.

Fig 2.19 Empathy Map (Nurse & Family Members)

Not only empathy map, we also make the user journey map together.

Then, we also filled up the rest that we need to do together.

Ideation Phase

This week, Dr. Wong told us to do the crazy 8 ideation together in class. The rule is we need to draw or write down any idea in a paper under 8 minutes only. So after we did that, we put our ideation in Figma, and discuss on which idea that we should bring further as our final product, as a proposal to our client, that we will show during the mid presentation.

Fig 2.22 Crazy 8 Ideation

After some discussion, we decided to choose the sliding mat idea and propose it to our client during the presentation, however, Prof. Manohar likes our other idea, which is the wheelchair that can be transformed into a bed, and is detachable.

Prof. Manohar also gives us some feedback for our final product. He asked that it will be great if the wheelchair height is also adjustable to ease the transfer process. He also suggested us to make the armrest floating, and the wheelchair to has small wheels so the sitting area is free, so when that part is being detached from the wheel frame, the flow is smooth because there is nothing blocking the way.

Fig 2.23 Final Ideation

Then, after we have our final product ideation and taking notes on the feedback, we begin to make our wheelchair sketches for each person, so then we can combine our design, features, and usability to produce the best version of the wheelchair.

Fig 2.24 Product Ideation Sketches

After we make our sketches, Btari will help us to make the 3D blender for the wheelchair, since her specialization is entertainment design.

Fig 2.25 Product Making Progress

While Btari make the 3D blend, we work on defining the usability goals & concerns, who will be our participants, and deciding on how to measure the usability.

Fig 2.26 Weekly Progress Update (Figma)

Moreover, we also identified the scenario and the task, and write it down step by step. We also write the instruction manual draft for the wheelchair mechanism.

Fig 2.27 Weekly Progress Update (Figma)

Since the next step after we're done making our 3D blend product outcome, we have to do the user-testing by conducting interview to caregivers (family members) via online, so we made the interview questions regarding our product, named Mobibed. We also working on our product/brand logo.
