Brief
Smile Surprise (Miniature Toiletries)
- Company Name: Smile Surprise
- Product: Gift packs of miniature toiletry items (e.g., shampoo, conditioner, body wash, deodorant).
- Target Market: A younger generation who want to give inexpensive presents to friends.
- Core Values: Products are produced with great concern for the environment. The packaging must focus on the 3R's: reduce, reuse and recycle.
- Packaging Goal: Design an innovative gift pack capable of holding a varying range of miniature toiletries. The packaging must:
1. Showcase the products and the concept of choice.
2. Securely deliver the product from factory to home without damage.
3. Retain shelf appeal and have a clear, attractive brand identity.
4. Consider the end of life of the packaging, focusing on the 3 R's.
5. Branding Goal: Design a logo that appeals to a younger generation.
1. Visual References and Logo Sketches
After we discuss together as a group team, we decided to do research for our concept design and compile the references we got. For the concept design, we agreed to make the brand looks playful and youthful. Our target audience will be teenagers aged between 15-20. Nevertheless, we also decided to use bright blue and yellow colour as our brand dominant colours, since they look bright, youthful, and playful, that is also suitable with our target audience too.
2. Digitization
Then, after we agreed with the design style, we began to make some sketches for the logo and the packaging. We were planning to make 4 products at first, that consist of body gel, shampoo, conditioner, and deodorant. Then, Mr. Shamsul said that the packaging for our deodorant will looks different than the other three and it might reduce the consistency, so we decided to go with 3 products: body gel, shampoo, and conditioner.
After feedback session and discussion, we finalized the logo assisted by Mr. Shamsul.

3. Prototyping
For the next step, we proceed to make the box prototype with our first box idea. It is a simple rectangular box that I made using corrugated board and we cut the board at laser cut studio.

3. FEEDBACK
Week 8: Refine the logo, then develop the packaging structure to be more convenient.
Week 9: Mr. Shamsul approved our box packaging design, so we can proceed to make the viusalization and the dieline to make the prototype. For the logo design, we can improvise the letter "e" more.
Week 10: Packaging: Make the material of the packaging thinner and design the outside cover. Label: For the label we need to keep it basic and put the name of product (shampoo etc.) closer to the logo.
